Facebook Page Insights can be very useful. If you have a Page to promote your business, products, services, charity, podcast. Whatever it is.

Facebook is the go-to platform for a lot of businesses and marketers.

Facebook is the largest social network, with over 2 billion users every day. THAT’S HUGE

Businesses turn to this platform, not only because of the number of people on there each day. But because of Facebook’s Page Insights. It’s insightful and in-depth, as well as being somewhat complicated when starting out.

At the time of writing. Facebook track over 52,000 data points on a single person alone.

So you can imagine what sort of digging you can do with their Insights tool.

In the post, I will run through 2 ways to analyze your Facebook Page Insights.

Review Your Facebook Page Insights On Facebook

The first way to review your Facebook Page Insights. It is to use Facebook.

I know, it seems obvious. A lot of people I chat to have trouble using Facebook’s Insights tool.

I’m going to show you how to do this using Facebook’s website on a Desktop PC.

Finding Your Facebook Page Insights

Once you have logged into Facebook. The quickest way I find to get to your Facebook Page Insights. Is to click on the ‘Pages’ button at the top of your news feed.

Then, when the ‘Pages You Manage’ list appears. Click on the Page you want to analyse stats for.

A preview of that Facebook Page should appear. To view your Facebook Page Insights. Under the Manage Page section on the left-hand side, there should be a button called ‘Insights’

You should now see a screen that looks something like this:

Reviewing Your Facebook Page Insights

Now that you have found your Facebook Page Insights. It’s the harder job of making sense of that data.

On the main Facebook Page Insights section, you can start looking at different data.

Starting off with the Page Summary. By the way you can change the number of days you are looking at from ‘Last 7 days’, to ‘Today’, ‘Yesterday’, and ‘Last 28 days’.

Allowing you to review data depending on the length of your marketing campaign. Or promotion length

Facebook Page Insights: Your 5 Most Recent Posts

The next section in the main Facebook Page Insights section is ‘ Your 5 Most Recent Posts’

In the above screenshot, you can see the last 5 posts that you or your team shared on your Facebook Page. With a quick overview of their Reach and Engagement.

Facebook even give you a quick way to ‘Boost Post’ from this section. Always trying to get money out of you. Tut tut Facebook 🙂

Facebook Page Insights: Pages to Watch

One of the cool features of Facebook Page Insights is the ‘Pages to Watch’ section

As you can see. You can create a list of competitor’s pages in Facebook Page Insights. Your own page will also appear in this list.

I’m not one for focusing on what others are doing. But it does give you an idea of how other brands are using their Facebook Page to promote themselves.

You can then look at the sort of posts that are working for them. Allowing you to model what is working, to help promote your business.

What Data To Look At In Your Facebook Page Insights

I could write an entire eBook on this alone (drop me a message if you want me too).

I’ve written a post about the Top 5 Facebook Page Insight Metrics to Track When starting out.

Check out this post where I go a little deeper into what each stat means.

Here are the 5 things I recommend you look at in your Facebook Page Insights on a regular basis.

  • Page Views
  • Impressions
  • Likes
  • Page Engagement (Actions on Page)
  • Post Engagement

Facebook Page Insights: Pages Views

To look at your Page Views metrics. In the ‘Page Summary’ section you will see the data in the top middle tile.

Clicking on the data will take you to a breakdown of the metric.

Drilling down into the stat. Allows you to inspect the data a bit more. Looking into things like the age and gender of the people who visited your page.

This is a great way to see if the goal of your marketing campaign on Facebook in reaching the right people and getting them to view your page.

Facebook Page Insights: Likes

Another good metric to review is the number of Likes your page is getting.

Getting a Like is great, it means the person wants to hear more from you and like the content you are putting out.

Facebook will reward you for getting likes. By showing more posts in the persons’ newsfeed.

So, how do you view ‘Page Likes’

Again in the ‘Page Summary’ section. The top right stats displays your Page Likes.

As before, clicking this metric will take you to a more detailed breakdown.

This time the data is present to you in a different way. Facebook Page Insights is trying to give you a sense of what is happening with your page likes, over a period of time.

The more likes, the better.

Facebook Page Insights: Page Engagement

Page engagement, or ‘Actions on Page’ is a funny one.

On the ‘Page Summary’, this Facebook Page Insights metric appears first, as the top left stat.

In this example, we haven’t done well in getting people to take action on our page.

As you will see in the next two screenshots. There is a lot of data in the drill-down section of this stat.

As you can see. There is potentially a lot of data that can be thrown at you if you decide to dig a little deeper into the stat.

Facebook Page Insights: Post Engagement

What you want to know is: are your posts engaging people! Right!

Facebook Page Insights dashboard shows you this, again on the ‘Page Summary’ section.

Clicking this metric will take you to an in-depth breakdown of each post’s engagement data.

We’ve already seen a similar view in the main Facebook Page Insights screen. When shows you your 5 most recent posts.

This is a great way to see if what you are posting on Facebook is engaging with people and helping you hit those marketing goals.

Facebook Page Insights: What About Impressions

Finding out how many impressions, posts from your page have had over the last 7 or 29 days isn’t as easy as reviewing the other data.

Impressions are important as it gives you an idea of how many people may have seen one of your posts in their news feed.

I don’t think there is a quick and easy way to see your impression stats without exporting your page insights into a spreadsheet.

This is a real pain to do.

There must be an easier way?

Review Your Facebook Page Insights Using Elementary Analytics

The first way to review your Facebook Page Insights. Perhaps the easiest way is to use a tool like Elementary Analytics.

Using tools like Elementary Analytics allows you to look at the key pieces of data from Facebook Insights, in a simple and accessible way.

Allowing you to quickly focus on the data you need to look at. Saving you hours, you don’t need to work out what stats to look at.

Or spend hours figuring out how to find them on Facebook. The data is all there once you log in.

Reviewing Your Facebook Page Insights Using Elementary Analytics

It’s extremely quick and easy to get up and running with Elementary Analytics.

Once you have created your account. It takes less than 30 seconds for you to see your Facebook page’s insight in the dashboard.

As you can see. You can quickly see the Likes, Views, Engagement, and Post Clicks information from the last 30 days very easily.

Elementary Analytics also shows you whether the number has gone up or down compared to the previous 30 days. And by what percentage the data has changed by.

You can also see a graph, breaking down each stat day by day, for the last 30 days. Including Impressions.

Use Elementary Analytics To Dig Into Facebook Insights

If you want to dig a little deeper into your data, you can.

Unlike Facebook insights, where the data is confusing and spread around in different screens or tabs. Elementary Analytics keeps all the data on a single screen.

If you click the ‘View more detail’ button you will get the following data shown to you.

In this breakdown screen. We again show you a graph of a day-by-day breakdown of your Facebook Insights data.

In this screen, you can set KPIs against these stats to help you track performance and make sure you are hitting targets that you may have set.

Elementary Analytics also shows you Paid vs. Organic data.

So if you are running an ad as well as posting onto your page. It gives you an idea of how many likes and impressions you are getting from each method of promotion.

Review Your Facebook Page Insights Month by Month

In Facebook insights. There is no easy way to review how things are been going over the last quarter, or month by month, over the last year.

If you continue to scroll down in Elementary Analytics’ Facebook screen you will see two tables.

This allows you to see performance over a period of time.

Great to see how you have been growing your Facebook page, ultimately growing your business too.

Review Your Facebook Page Posts

Another great feature of this screen inside Elementary Analytics. You can see all the posts that have been shared on that page for the last 30 days.

Not only that, Elementary Analytics, gives each post a “Score” allowing you to sort posts by score, or by date and time.

This is a great way to see which posts have been performing really well for you. (As you can see, I’ve had a terrible month when it comes to engagement)

If a post sparks your interest. You can click the ‘View post’ link to see what it was.

As you can see, you can review a post in Elementary Analytics, without having to leave the tool.

You no longer have to go back into Facebook and scroll through the posts from your page to try and figure out which ones are performing well for you.

Conclusion

It can be difficult to understand the data Facebook Insights provides.

If you want a simpler way of reviewing your Facebook Page’s performance, we recommend using Elementary Analytics instead.

With this tool, you’ll have access to all the analytics information for your page without having to use any complicated formulas or decipher confusing graphs and charts.
