If you’re in eCom, you must have an Instagram Business Account. If you don’t you’re missing out. Have you ever asked, “How do I export data for an Instagram Business Account?”

So, in this article, I’m going to show you how to do that.

I’m always “shouting” on social media about how important your marketing data is.

The big problem. From my experience. Having all this data from each platform is great. But it’s useless unless pulled together and reviewed as a whole.

And the biggest problem with Instagram analytics is you can only view them inside the app. Not using Instagram.com and a web browser.

There is a way around this. You have to use Meta’s Business Suite.

What has its own problems

Right, let’s get to it.

How do you export data for an Instagram Business Account

Here’s how.

Step-by-Step Guide to Export Data For An Instagram Business Account

With these 4 simple steps. You’ll be able to export data for an Instagram Business Account in no time.

Before we get started. You need to make sure that you’ve converted your Instagram account to a business account. And that you’ve linked it to a Facebook Page.

Meta is funny about all this. I still don’t know why. But once you’ve made sure everything is above board. Start by logging into your Meta Business Suite.

Step 1: View The Instagram Account Inside the Business Suite

Once you’ve logged into your Business Suite. If you have access to a few business portfolios. Select the one that the Instagram Business Account is under.

Next, expand the pop-out menu and go to the ‘Insights’ section.

This may appear as a shortcut at the top of the menu. If it doesn’t, scroll down to the ‘Analyze and Report’ section of the menu. And you’ll find it there.

You should now see an overview of “linked assets”

Step 2: Select Your Instagram Business Account ToView

Now that you’re inside the Insight section of Meta Business Suite.

At the top right-hand side of the screen. There is a dropdown.

What I find is that this defaults to selecting the Facebook Page data for the linked accounts.

Switch from Facebook to Instagram and the screen will refresh. The business suite will now show an over for the Instagram account.

Next, you will need to select only the Instagram Business Account to view data.

Again, by default, the Meta Business Suite will select both accounts by default

There is a drop-down, at the very top of this screen. Open the menu and make sure the ‘Select none’ option is marked in the Facebook Pages section. And that the correct Instagram account is selected.

Select an Instagram Business Account to review insights for.

Once that’s done. Click the ‘Apply’ button and the screen will update.

Step 3: View Results For An Instagram Business Account

Next, you’ll want to dig a little deeper into your insights.

The screen will also you to export data for an Instagram Business Account.

Step 4: Export Data For An Instagram Business Account

The export features inside Meta Business Suite are shocking if I’m honest.

You can either, only export data for a single metric. This guide shows you how to do it.

Or you have to set up a complex report inside the Business Suite. Then you can export this report as needed.

But it isn’t that easy.

Now that you can see that data for your Instagram Business Account. On this screen, you can export data for each metric as needed.

Start by selecting which period you’d like to export data for. You can do this on the top right of the screen. The Business Suite is good here, as it gives you a lot of default options. As well as letting you pick your own date range.

Once you’re happy you can then click the ‘Export’ button for each metric/graph you want the data for.

Again, the Meta Business Suite does a decent job here.

You can download the graph as a png if you’d like to embed it into a report.

Or as a CSV file, if you want to get the data into an Excel spreadsheet for example. So you can do your own analysis and data manipulation.

You can even grab it as a PDF so you can forward it straight to someone else for a quick review.

Understanding Instagram Business Account Insights

At the start of this post. I mentioned how important an Instagram Business Account can be. If you’re an eCommerce brand.

I’m going to go back on that statement.

It’s not important, it’s essential, business-critical.

One of the best things about Instagram is that you showcase, and “show off” your products. Better than almost any other platform. Instagram Business Account insights can show you demographic data from your campaigns.

It’s a perfect way to see if your posts are reaching the right people. Also to see if that content then speaks to those people.

The first rule of marketing is to niche down and find your “ideal customer”. Then to create content for them.

Instagram has all this data for you. But Meta does a terrible job at helping you with your data.
